Expertise

Kevin J. Pokorny has worked in the area of sexual harassment and EEO laws for over 30 years. He incorporates his legal expertise with his training expertise to help employees and supervisors learn and apply the laws effectively and with respect in the workplace.

Kevin's expertise is comprised of many experiences, which include:

  • Worked as an investigator, mediator, and trainer for the Iowa Civil Rights Commission and the Iowa Department of Personnel for 12 years.
  • Conducted sexual harassment training for over 300 employers throughout the United States in industry areas of insurance, banking and financial institutions, manufacturing, senior health care, retail, hospitals and medical clinics, gas and utilities, ag-industry, retail, state and local governments, business and education associations, school districts and community colleges, and law enforcement including the Iowa State Patrol.
  • Investigated over 400 alleged cases of discrimination as an investigator for the Iowa Civil Rights Commission. He also has conducted internal investigations for employers on sexual harassment complaints filed by employees.
  • Worked with several attorneys to analyze EEO cases pending trial and has been an expert witness in Federal Court on a sexual harassment, disability, and retaliation case.
  • Scriptwriter and moderator for a sexual harassment video used in training more than 20,000 State of Iowa employees.

Kevin estimates that his training has been delivered to over 35,000 people.

Seminars

We conduct training for both managers and non-managers designed to ensure that everyone follows their organization's harassment policy and for managers to avoid employer liability.

  • Most seminars are 1.5 - 2 hours in length.
  • We use case situations, video clips, and group discussion to engage participants.
  • We work with Human Resources to review an organization's policy during the seminar.
  • Seminars can range from 15 to 100 people.
  • Our training also includes a review of sexual orientation and gender identity, which was added to Iowa's civil rights law in 2007.
